The character of educational authority

The teacher has to maintain a role of authority on the students and will use seduction and/or power in the process of teaching. But true education is a very different process with respect to persuasion. It is "persuasion" when the objective is to make the counterpart to comply with one’s wishes. It is "education", when the objective is to make the counterpart freer. Education is development of the personality of the learner. So, if the teacher uses some seduction or some scolding while teaching, it will be for a very different purpose. The real teacher doesn’t have to convince the students to obey, but will show them how they can choose. It is a very different approach altogether. The teacher can be very kind. But the gratification of the student for a good lesson is immediate; and not postponed like the gratification offered by the ads and the other forms of seduction; and apart from the time lines, it is of a very different order.
